Rochester, NY—The Rochester Housing Authority is excited to share that the FY2023 HUD Continuum of Care (CoC) Funding awards have been announced. The total award for this area (CoC NY-500) was $15,666,769 that represented an 8.48% increase from FY2022. No new projects received funding awards but all existing programs were fully funded. The $1,342,335 increase was primarily due to adjustments to Fair Market Rent (FMR) for this area, and Partners Ending Homelessness (PEH) was awarded a significant increase in the Planning Grant. RHA received funding for its nine Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) grants for homeless and disabled individuals and families, renewed at 100% for 2024.
“We are thrilled by this news and want to congratulate the other organizations who also received grant funding,” remarked RHA Executive Director Shawn Burr. “Our grant renewal will allow RHA to continue providing housing for some of our most vulnerable populations. It also is a testament to the success of our programs and the acknowledgement of our hard-working staff.”
RHA’s nine programs provide housing assistance for up to 260 individuals and families throughout Monroe County. The grant funding renewal of $3,155,014 will also allow RHA to continue partnering with other area providers—such as Veterans Outreach Center—which deliver critical support services to their shared populations.
PSH grants are subject to an annual renewal application process with a local competition and is based on performance review and subsequent assessment by HUD.
In an email to the 13 recipients, Charles Bollinger III, deputy director of Rochester’s Partners Ending Homelessness, noted that “the impact you make on the lives of those we serve is immeasurable, and it is through your tireless efforts, we continue to make strides toward our overarching goal of ending homelessness in Rochester and Monroe County.”
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and its Continuum of Care program –the backbone federal program supporting community homelessness response systems across the country—announced nearly $3.16 billion in Continuum of Care program awards for over 7,000 projects that provide housing assistance and/or supportive services to people experiencing homelessness. The historic $3.16 billion represents the largest-ever amount of Continuum of Care program funding awarded to communities to address homelessness and provides a critical expansion of resources at a time when rates of homelessness are rising in most communities.
