MOVING WITHIN THE ROCHESTER AREA
|
If you are a current participant of the Rochester Housing Authorities’ Section 8 program and wish to move within our 5 county area (Monroe, Orleans, Livingston, Ontario & Wayne counties) you must meet the following criteria:
1. Be a tenant in good standing which means that:
a. You have no outstanding debt owed to your landlord or any federally
funded Housing Authority.
b. You have no outstanding “tenant caused” HQS violation.
c. You have been under contract with your current landlord for one year or
more.
If you meet the above criteria:
1. You MUST give at least a 30 day notice to your Landlord.
a. If you are at the end of your lease you can write a letter to your
Landlord saying you are not renewing your lease and make sure
that your Housing Specialist receives a copy.
b. If you have been a tenant for at least one year but are NOT at the end
of your lease you and your landlord must sign a Dissolution of Lease.
You can obtain this form from your Housing Specialist.
2. Review the “When Moving, Be Aware” document to help prepare you for the
pitfalls of moving.
Once your Housing Special is notified that you wish to move, your folder will be assigned to a Moving Housing Specialist and you will be contacted to set up an appointment to receive your moving papers.
EXCEPTION: If you are a victim of Domestic Violence
1. Fill out the HUD-50066 form and attach all documentation such as police
reports etc.
2. Call your Housing Specialist and make her aware of your need to move
and supply her with the HUD form and documentation
Your Housing Specialist will then contact your current Landlord for you and you will be contacted by a Moving Housing Specialist. Make sure that we have an address and phone number where we can reach you.
