MOVING OUT OF THE ROCHESTER AREA
|
Moving out of the Rochester area:
In order to port out of our jurisdiction with your voucher, you must be in good standing with the Rochester Housing Authority, and end your lease in the proper manner.
Contact your Housing Specialist to let us know you are interested in moving out of the area and to find out if you are eligible to move. We are currently allowing moves to areas that are ABSORBING or who’s payment standards are the same or below our own. We generally do not permit moves or porting during the first year of your lease.
Fill out a Request for Portability Information that will be used to send your portability packet to your new Housing Authority. There may be restrictions on whether you may port to a specific jurisdiction.
You can find out about other housing authorities by using one of these links:

Once we have verified that you are eligible to move and that we can port your voucher to the location you wish, you will be contacted for an appointment to come into to be recertified and to receive your portability packet.
At your appointment, be prepared with current income and asset documentation for all household members. This information, as well as the names of all members of your household will be sent to your new Housing Authority. You must report any changes before your packet is sent.
We will tell you when we send your packet so that you may contact the new Housing Authority for an appointment to receive your moving papers. You may wish to start looking for a unit by using the internet or by contacting friends or relatives in your new area.
Different Housing Authorities have different rules, policies, and deadlines. There most likely will be different payment standards and utility allowances that will effect what you pay for rent. Your subsidy size will be determined by the new Housing Authority.
